Lotus Lake Fishing

Catch of the Day

Lotus Lake is a neat little lake on the west side of town. It has lots of docks and shallow vegetation to fish. The lake lacks structure to fish but the docks and weeds make up for that. This lake can be very busy at times, so it’s easier to fish on the weekdays.

Just out from the access on the east side of the lake is a large area of shallow weeds and lily pads, so that’s where I began my day of fishing on this lake. I started out with a shallow diving crankbait and my rubber frog. The frog was the first lure to produce for me. I was fishing it in the lily pads and got a fish to take a swing at it and miss, but I was able to throw my jig back in there and catch him with that. It was a pretty big fish too. The frog and jig combo worked several more times for me in the pads but as soon as I got to the end of the pads a big northern pike hit my jig near the edge of the bulrushes. It weighed about 5 pounds so that was fun too.

After that I spent some time fishing the docks with the jig and did well with that too. I was even able to catch one on a spinnerbait before the day was over. I have a feeling that just about anything I tried would have worked for me on this day. I think it was the weather that was really helping the fishing. It was a hot and humid day with a forecast of thunderstorms for later in the evening.
